Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan, Moscow, May 27, 2025

Mr Minister,

First of all, I would like to welcome you and your delegation to Russia.

Your busy agenda is based on the agreements and understandings reached during top-level meetings between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This mutual commitment to result and consistent strengthening of our partnership was reaffirmed during your meeting with President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin yesterday.

There are many plans on our bilateral agenda. The issues we are discussing are aimed at overcoming the illegal obstacles to our cooperation which hostile states are trying to create. Their plans will not be realised. Our trade and investment cooperation are developing and will continue to develop progressively.

Today, we have an opportunity to hold an in-depth discussion of our bilateral relations, focusing on the issues our leaders have outlined for analysis and implementation.

Of course, we always have a packed international agenda. Russia and Türkiye are actively contributing to the international efforts to normalise the situation in a number of regions, including North Africa and the Middle East.

As President Vladimir Putin said yesterday, we appreciate the opportunities provided by the Republic of Türkiye for holding the next stage of direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

I am confident that our meeting today will help achieve the goals set for us by the leaders of Russia and Türkiye.
